Property Law FAQs
Is an 11-month rent agreement legally valid?
Yes. Leases of a year or less are not compulsorily registrable under the Registration Act, 1908, though stamp duty must still be paid. Some states, such as Maharashtra for leave and licence agreements, require registration regardless of term.
What does a property title search cover?
An advocate traces ownership documents for at least 13–30 years, checks the encumbrance certificate, mutation and tax records, and flags gaps, litigation or loans on the property.
Can an NRI buy or sell property in India through a lawyer?
Yes. A registered power of attorney lets a trusted person or advocate act for you, and we can coordinate attestation at the Indian mission abroad.
How are fees for court cases charged?
Consultations and drafting have fixed fees. For court matters, the advocate gives a written quote per stage after reviewing documents; you pay only after accepting it.
